Not classic after-school care. Not a gym. A third way.

We bring together what regular after-school care and the sports club both leave unfinished. A daily programme with pedagogical depth and a scientific foundation. Learning to move in every way, with fun as the common thread.

What our programme rests on

Three pillars, one programme.

ABC Sport BSO isn't childcare with a sports activity bolted on. The entire programme stands on three foundations that reinforce one another, and you'll see all three every afternoon.

BMD

Broad Motor Development

Not early specialisation, but learning to move in every way. A child who moves broadly builds better coordination, strength and balance, and picks up fewer injuries, now and later.

ASM

Athletic Skills Model

The ten fundamentals of movement as the framework for our programme. Variety isn't left to chance, it's guaranteed: every week covers the whole basis of movement.

Friluftsliv

Outdoor living, outdoor learning

The Scandinavian philosophy of being outside. Fresh air and nature aren't a fair-weather bonus here, they're the setting for every afternoon. Being outdoors lowers stress, engages every sense and builds resilience.

“There is no bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

What we offer

Moving in every way, growing with joy

At ABC Sport BSO, children get the space to discover what they can do. With a mix of sports, challenging games and plenty of outdoor fun, we encourage their broad motor development. Children practise a range of skills, discover their interests and build their self-confidence step by step.

Ten fundamentals as the basis

Our programme is inspired by the ideas of the Athletic Skills Model (ASM). We use the ten fundamental forms of movement, which ASM brings together in its ‘Schijf van 10!’ (Wheel of 10), as the starting point for our content.

These fundamentals return in changing combinations in our sport tracks, outdoor activities and play moments. We match the challenges to the children's age, abilities and interests. Fun, variety and growing at your own level come first.

  • Play-fighting & wrestling
  • Throwing & catching
  • Climbing & clambering
  • Aiming & shooting
  • Running & walking
  • Kicking & striking
  • Jumping & landing

Inspired by ASM, translated into ABC

We share ASM's focus on versatile movement and translate these ideas into our own pedagogical and sports programme. Children get the chance to try new things, experience success and discover that practice and perseverance help them move forward.

ABC currently has no official partnership with ASM, and holds no licence or certification from ASM. We do aim to deepen our knowledge and application of the ASM approach further, and to explore the possibilities for a formal partnership.

That is how we make every afternoon a chance to move, discover and grow.

The ABC model

ABC Sport BSO, literally.

The name is no accident. Our three development lines start with A, B and C, and together they form the foundation a child builds on for the rest of their life.

Athletic & broad motor skills

Running, jumping, climbing, coordinating. Varied movement builds a broad physical foundation a child benefits from for life.

Body awareness & mental growth

Sport as a mirror. Learning to handle winning and losing, pushing limits and persevering, in a setting where making mistakes is allowed.

Connection & enjoyment

Working together, team spirit and a warm group where every child dares to be themselves. Enjoyment isn't a by-product here, it's the engine.

The cycle

A method that runs in a loop, not in a diary.

We don't plan one-off activities. We work from a fixed cycle of four steps that starts afresh every week.

01

Observe

The mentor notes what a child chooses for themselves and what they steer clear of. One tap in the guide app, no clipboard.
02

Choose

At the start of each week we decide which fundamentals need extra attention, per group, sometimes per child.
03

Move

Four hours per afternoon. Five afternoons per week. Always within the rhythm of the ten fundamentals.
04

Reflect

Parents see the same moments again in the Movement Journal. No report cards, just development you'll recognise.
A week at ABC

Five days, five accents.

Every day has a main theme. We spread the ten fundamentals across the week without it feeling rigid; children choose within the theme.

Us vs. regular after-school care

What we do differently, and why.

ABC Sport BSO

  • Five afternoons, ten fundamentals.
  • ASM-trained guides, one consistent mentor.
  • Parent app shows per child which fundamentals were offered.
  • No report card, real development instead.
  • Play-fighting, rolling, climbing, inviting, not scary.

Regular after-school care

  • A sports activity as an optional extra.
  • Rotating stand-ins or student trainees.
  • Monthly newsletter with photos.
  • No visible development, or hard scores.
  • Play-fighting & wrestling? Not allowed.
Pedagogical core goals

Four statutory goals, four concrete choices.

We work to the four pedagogical core goals set out in the Dutch Childcare Act, formulated by Prof. Dr Marianne Riksen-Walraven. Each one translates into something you can see on the floor.

Emotional safety

Fixed base groups, a recognisable daily rhythm and a dedicated mentor per child. Making mistakes is fine: it's a step in learning, not a problem.

Personal competence

The ten fundamentals stimulate broad motor skills. By managing something new again and again, a child builds confidence that reaches well beyond the field.

Social competence

Sport and play are the best way to learn cooperation and resolve conflict. Our guides join in actively, as role models, not referees.

Values and standards

Respect is our core value: for one another, for the equipment and for nature. Fair play isn't a poster on the wall here, it's daily practice.

Our promises

Four things you can expect from us.

Ten fundamentals per week, guaranteed.

Every week your child is offered all ten fundamentals. Not one sport, but the whole foundation of moving.

ASM-trained guides, one consistent mentor.

Your child sees a familiar face every afternoon. Every permanent guide is ASM-trained before they take a group.

Visible development, no report card.

In the parent app you see what your child has done, not how they 'score'. We don't judge, but we do watch closely.

Safe, methodical, with fun first.

Our safety protocols are tailored to our environment and the activities we do. GGD-compliant, first-aid cover always present.
Grounded in science

What we claim, we can back up.

We do not claim that our programme makes children "smarter". What the science does point to: varied movement supports motor skills, health, social development and enjoyment of movement, and increases the chance of moving for life.
